“Josh Birdsong comes out of this five song EP sounding like a potential world-beater. The material on his debut release Simple Geometry solidifies his position as one of Nashville’s most talented songwriters, an all-around icon in the making capable of excelling musically and lyrically… Birdsong’s talent with words and the connection between his self-expression and the quantifiable results of his effort set him far apart from most of his contemporaries.”
- Dale Butcher, Indie Mindy Music

“…his ear for a compelling melody seems to be pretty much limitless… It’s rare to encounter performers and their work when it is so obvious that the central figure is hanging with every word and note, but that’s very much the case with Simple Geometry and it makes for one of the year’s most impressive debuts.”
- David Shouse, Indie Music Reviews

By weaving orchestrations of looped electric guitars with his depthful vocal phrasing—

Josh Birdsong has crafted a sonic signature inherently his own. A Detroit native currently based in Nashville, Josh intertwines the influences of innovative artists such as The Police, The Smiths, and Death Cab for Cutie with the ambient textures of Tycho and Washed Out. His sophomore EP, “Where the Light Bends”, was recorded in Nashville by producer Stephen Leiweke, who has worked on projects with acclaimed artists including Ingrid Michaelson and Jars of Clay. “Where the Light Bends” captures the range of Josh’s arch-typical songwriting style and his guitar playing from edge to ethereal.

This six song EP opens with the dynamic “Complex Context”, and moves to the slow inertial build of “The Sound Beneath the Static”. “Cloud 8” captivates with its melodic grooves, while “Too Much to Hold” highlights Josh’s lyrical ability to create a subdued ballad that builds. Finally, the EP culminates with “Arctic Desert”, which focuses on the climax of Birdsong’s sampled feeling guitars, and resolves with the title track, “Where the Light Bends”, which underscores the undercurrent of soul-felt songwriting threaded throughout atmospheres of ambient production.

Josh’s debut EP, “Simple Geometry”, also produced by Leiweke, was spun on over 100 radio stations nationwide and noted him as one of “Nashville’s most talented songwriters, an all-around icon in the making, capable of excelling musically and lyrically.” He is a winner of the 2015 International Songwriting Competition chosen over 18,500 entrants from 120 different countries, as well as an Indie International Songwriting Competition winner
