“Josh Birdsong comes out of this five song EP sounding like a potential world-beater. The material on his debut release Simple Geometry solidifies his position as one of Nashville’s most talented songwriters, an all-around icon in the making capable of excelling musically and lyrically… Birdsong’s talent with words and the connection between his self-expression and the quantifiable results of his effort set him far apart from most of his contemporaries.”
- Dale Butcher, Indie Mindy Music

“…his ear for a compelling melody seems to be pretty much limitless… It’s rare to encounter performers and their work when it is so obvious that the central figure is hanging with every word and note, but that’s very much the case with Simple Geometry and it makes for one of the year’s most impressive debuts.”
- David Shouse, Indie Music Reviews

“My music hints at the unspoken elements...”

Josh Birdsong is an independent singer/songwriter currently based in Nashville, TN.  His debut EP, “Simple Geometry”, intertwines soulful songwriting with ambient production, crafting music that resonates across genres—ranging from the influences of songwriters such as John Mayer, Morrissey, and James Taylor to the sonic landscapes of Tycho.  The EP, recorded by Nashville producer Stephen Leiweke, who has worked with artists including Ingrid Michaelson and Jars of Clay, captures the weaving of Josh’s signature guitar style and his characteristic vocal phrasing.

“Simple Geometry” features the song, “You And I”, which won in the 2015 International Songwriting Competition for lyrics, selected from over 18,500 entrants from 120 countries.  "You And I", was also a winner in the 2016 Indie International Songwriting Competition.  It highlights his ability to write lyrics that strike at the core of human connection.  The first track and single, “Unspeakable”, contains subtleties of Brit-Pop while filled with cunning lyrics that touch the deeper undertone of frailty in relationships.  “Radio Waves”, “Drive”, and “Why?”, show innovative use of pedals with warm delays and reverbs layered upon loops of guitar tracks.  Each song evokes personal atmosphere and unique observation, threaded together by Josh’s songwriting and inventive guitar.
